GCSE Boost Swindon is being launched to bring the successful wellbeing, and careers show experience from the city to the town, with a strong focus on opportunities, wellbeing, and meaningful support for young people.
Why is GCSE Boost important to build and launch in Swindon and Wiltshire?
Swindon has a youthful population, with 23% aged 0–17 and 18.1% of speaking English as a second language. The town also faces challenges, including GCSE attainment gaps between disadvantaged and non-disadvantaged pupils that are higher than the national average. Currently, 18.0% of people aged 16–64 in Swindon are economically inactive, while unemployment stands at 2.6% for those aged 16 and over. Alongside this, there are growing concerns around youth unemployment and limited access to effective mental health support for young people—highlighting the need for targeted wellbeing and careers interventions.
In our first year, partnering with New college Swindon, we aim to support up to 500 students from the town of Swindon with a wellbeing and careers show experience that learners may not be able to experience due to their location accessibility and lack of opportunities.
Why is GCSE Boost Important?
Find Out More“We are really excited for all our year 11 students to attend GCSE Boost. Having worked with Junior before, I have been impressed by how he manages to engage all students and really get them thinking hard about how they can help themselves to get the best possible outcomes. The big appeal of GCSE Boost is the balanced focus of study techniques, but also self-care, which is so important for students to understand if they are going to fulfil their potential.”
